Quebec heating companies sell into a market where electricity, not gas, does most of the work. The sales and operations system has to reflect that: option sheets built around electric furnaces, central systems and heat pumps, customer materials that are French first, and an honest way to present Hydro-Québec's grants.
We are a marketing and business consulting service, not a contractor. We do not install, repair or service furnaces or heat pumps, and we make no financing or lending promises. Your licensed team does every job; we design how it is sold, booked and measured.
An electric heating market
About 70% of Quebec households used electricity as their main heating energy in 2023, with natural gas around 5% and wood around 4% (Statistics Canada). Montréal, Québec City, Laval, Gatineau and Longueuil carry most of the volume, and Sherbrooke, Lévis and Saguenay anchor their regions.
For a furnace company, this changes the visit. The homeowner with an electric furnace or baseboards is usually weighing comfort, winter bills and whether a heat pump makes sense. The advisor's best tool is a fair, written comparison, not a product pitch.
French-first sales materials
Under Quebec's language law, French has to be the clearly dominant language in commercial advertising and public signage, and businesses serving Quebec customers need their websites and social media available in French. The OQLF explains the obligations for businesses; check the details with them or a lawyer.
For your sales system, the practical list is:
- Option sheets, quotes and membership agreements in French by default.
- Follow-up texts and reminders written in French first.
- Advisor scripts prepared in French, with English available on request.
- Scoreboard labels in the language your managers use daily.
LogisVert and the option sheet
As of October 2026, Hydro-Québec's LogisVert program offers grants for ENERGY STAR heat pumps of $50 per 1,000 BTU/h of rated capacity at -8°C, or $120 for units classed as cold climate, among other measures. Hydro-Québec also notes that a federal heat pump rebate is expected in 2027. Separately, a federal agreement announced on 29 June 2026 funds no-cost upgrades for about 25,000 low- and median-income Quebec households (NRCan backgrounder). Confirm current terms with the administrators before quoting.
How to use this in the good/better/best options sheet:
- Good: replace the electric furnace like for like, sized properly.
- Better: add a standard heat pump to the furnace.
- Best: a cold-climate heat pump where the home suits it, with the furnace as backup.
On each tier the advisor writes "possible LogisVert grant: confirm with Hydro-Québec" rather than a number.
Peak season and dispatch
Quebec's winters are cold and snowy, and the season is longer outside the St. Lawrence lowlands. In an electric-heat market, no-heat calls are often electric furnace failures or heat pump issues in deep cold, so your dispatchers need a triage script that sorts these quickly. The dispatch and capacity service builds that script with your service manager.
Regulators to know
The Régie du bâtiment du Québec licenses contractors and oversees building safety, including gas and electrical installations. Construction-industry workers also need competency certification from the CCQ. Licences belong to the installing contractor; we link the regulator for context only.
Measuring what works
Split your weekly numbers by the system the home starts with: electric furnace, baseboards, or an existing heat pump. Close rates and average job values usually differ a lot between them, and lumping them together hides which advisor scripts need work. The membership plans service also tracks which starting system produces the most renewals.
Where we would start
We would begin with your French-language materials and your quote follow-up, since those are often the fastest fixes. Then we would set up a weekly owner scoreboard and train advisors on the comfort-advisor sales process.
Our fees are in Canadian dollars, plus 5% GST and 9.975% QST for Quebec clients. See pricing. Call or text (604) 632-4959, or email Ali@Sedighi.ca. We meet in person or by video call, and texting is a welcome first step.
Frequently asked questions
Do our quotes and option sheets need to be in French?
For Quebec customers, plan on French as the main language of your advertising, website and customer materials. The OQLF publishes the rules for businesses; check them, and get legal advice if you are unsure. We give no legal advice, but we build every template so a French version is the default.
How should advisors present LogisVert?
As a grant the homeowner may be eligible for, with the Hydro-Québec link and a note that the amount depends on the equipment's rated capacity. Never fold it into the quoted price.
Is there still money for replacing oil furnaces in Quebec?
The provincial Chauffez vert program stopped accepting applications after 31 March 2026. Advisors should not mention it as available. Check current programs with the administrators before every season.
What taxes apply to your fees in Quebec?
5% GST plus 9.975% QST, shown on your written proposal.
